Knitted Dishcloth Patterns

When I was at home for a period of time I kept seeing patterns for knitted dishcloths. Mmmmm…. is that not something you buy in the supermarket??? Well, my curiosity got the better of me and I downloaded a couple and was suitably surprised!!! I loved them, really tough little cloths and, of course, you can make them in any size or colour to suit either your decor or your mood. So here are a few of my favourites. Breast Cancer Awareness Washcloth

This is in honour of Breast Cancer Awareness. Make it for yourself, or anyone else! In remembrance of family and friends who lost their battle with this disease. Below is the one I made using Sugar’n Cream cotton yarn.

     Materials: 1 ball of Bernat Handicrafter Cotton

Size 5 mm knitting needles

    Cast on 36 sts

    Rows 1-4: (k1, p1) across to last stitch, (Seed Stitch)

Instructions

With A, CO 51 sts.

Row 1 (RS): K3, *p1, k3; rep from * across.

Row 2: K1, p1, *k3, p1; rep from * to last st, k1.

Rep last 2 rows in A for 1″ (2.5cm),

B for 1″ (2.5cm),

C for 1″ (2.5cm),

B for 1″ (2.5cm),

then in A until piece measures 10″ (25cm), ending with a WS row.

BO all sts.

Finishing Weave in ends.

Grandmas favourite washcloth

This washcloth is a traditional pattern that can be found all over the internet and in various pattern books.  It is often called Grandmother’s Favorite Washcloth.

Easy

Materials:
Cotton Yarn (Sugar n‘ Cream or Peaches n’ Cream), knitting needles (sizes: 6 or 7 US; 4.00mm or 4.50 mm)

Instructions:  
Cast on 4 stitches
Row 1: Knit 4
Row 2: Knit 2, yarn over, knit across the row.
Repeat Row 2 until you have 44 stitches on the needle.
Row 3: Knit 1, knit 2 together, yarn over, knit 2 together, knit to the end of the row.
Repeat row 3 unti you have 4 stitches on the needle.  Bind off or stitch a round of single crochet and make a little loop of chain stitches in one corner to hange wash cloth to dry.

Notes:
I was able to knit 4 wash cloths from a skein (2.5 oz) of yarn using size 7 needles with a little yarn left over to make a cute striped washcloth with all the colors.

Textured Knit Dishcloth

This textured knit dishcloth is super fun and simple to make.  Dishcloths make for some of the best DIY gifts because [1] who doesn’t love a new dishcloth and [2] you can make them in under an hour!

Materials:

Pattern:

Cast on 32 stitches

Row 1: knit 2, purl 2

Row 2: knit 2, purl 2

Row 3: purl 2, knit 2

Row 4: purl 2, knit 2

Rows 5 – 40: Repeat rows 1 – 4, 9 times

Rows 41 – 42: Repeat rows 1 and 2

Row 43: purl 2, knit 2

Bind off in purl 2, knit 2

Cut yarn and weave in ends, you’re done!
