Knitted Octopus’ for Preemies

I have done a fair amount of charity and hospital knits expecially since being at home when having treatment and my concentration was not always that good so this is when I started. This pattern is for octopus’ for preemie babies. I have since read this originated in Denmark however, I had read the following article in the Daily Mail:

A hospital is using knitted octopus toys that replicate the feeling of being inside the womb to soothe babies in intensive care. The fluffy sea creatures – which each take two hours to make – calm the agitated newborns by making it feel like they are attached to an umbilical cord. According to medical staff in Curitiba Maternity Hospital in Brazil, where the initiative has been launched, the donated toys are working wonders and nurses have seen an improvement in the infants.

These were all made using Debbie Bliss Eco 100% Cotton to ensure they were as ethically friendly and safe as could be. To find the pattern you can download for free at my ‘Free Patterns’
